Turn Any PDF Into a QR Code
Menus, brochures, price lists, manuals, event programmes — most of what businesses want to put behind a QR code is a PDF. The usual trick is to upload it to a file-sharing site and turn that link into a code. It works until someone moves the file, the share link expires, or the sharing settings ask the visitor to sign in.
With Smart QR Code you upload the PDF to us instead. We host it, the QR code opens it straight in the phone’s browser, and when the PDF changes you upload the new version — the printed code stays exactly the same.
Create Your QR Code — Free, No Sign-up
Fill in the form to see your QR code
No sign-up. No watermark. Generated in your browser.
Why It Works
Upload once, print once
Replace the PDF whenever prices, dates or details change. The code on the table, poster or box keeps pointing to the latest version.
Opens on any phone
No app and no sign-in for the person scanning. The PDF opens in the phone’s own viewer, ready to read, zoom or save.
Know if anyone reads it
Every scan is counted, with country, city and device — so you can tell whether the brochure in the shop window actually gets opened.
No links that break
The file lives with the code, not in someone’s personal cloud folder. Nobody can move it or change its sharing settings by accident.
How to Set It Up
- 1
Start a free trial and create a new QR code of type “PDF Document”.
- 2
Choose “Upload a PDF” and pick the file (up to 20 MB). We host it for you.
- 3
Customize the colours, add your logo and a frame with a call to action like “Scan for the menu”.
- 4
Download the code in high resolution for print. When the PDF changes, upload the new one on the same code.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make a PDF QR code for free?
Yes, if your PDF is already online: paste its link in the free generator on this page and you get a static QR code that never expires. To have us host the file — and replace it later without reprinting — you need a plan; the 14-day free trial includes it, no card required.
Can I change the PDF after printing the QR code?
Yes. Open the code in your dashboard, choose Replace and upload the new file. The printed code stays the same and opens the new PDF straight away; the old file is deleted.
How large can the PDF be, and how much can I store?
Up to 20 MB per file. Your plan includes storage for all your files: 100 MB on Starter, 1 GB on Pro and 5 GB on Business, and you can add 10 GB more for $5 a month. For phones, smaller is better — a menu or brochure exported for screen, not print, usually takes under 2 MB and opens instantly.
Who can see my PDF?
Anyone who scans the code, or who has its link. That is what a QR code is for, so only upload documents you would hand out on paper. The address is long and random, and the file is not listed or indexed in search engines.
Why not just use a Google Drive or Dropbox link?
You can, and the free generator will make that code for you. The risk is that a shared link depends on someone’s personal account: if the file is moved, the account is closed or the sharing settings change, every printed code stops working, and some visitors are asked to sign in before they can see the file.
What happens to the code if my plan ends?
Your printed codes keep working — we do not hold codes hostage. You will not be able to upload new files or change the code until you choose a plan again.
